Inga Meijere – soprano, alto saxophonist, Director

A saxophonist, composer and the Director of the n[ex}t move saxophone quartet, Inga Meijere was brought up in a musical family, who performed together in many concerts and festivals in Latvia and abroad. Her first musical impressions were gained in her family, followed by music school, learning the piano, violin, and later the saxophone.

After having first completed the Jāzeps Mediņš Music Secondary School, Inga graduated from the saxophone class of the Jāzeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. She furthered her studies at the Jazz department of the Tallinn Music and Theatre Academy and in master classes with Mats Holmquist, Johann van der Linden, Claus Olesen, Mario Marzi, Jean Pierre Baraliolli, the Zagreb saxophone quartet as well as at the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Currently Inga is studying at the Riga Pedagogical and Education Management Academy.

In addition to her work with the saxophone quartet, Inga has performed in a duet with the pianist Natalie Ivanov, played in the City Jazz Big Band, in the brass section of the D11 Blues Band, the Latvian Police Band, with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra in various projects, with the Riga Chamber Musicians, the Riga Brass Band and other brass ensembles like Riga, Auseklitis and Klasika.

Inga has written compositions and arrangements for saxophone, tuba, clarinet quartets, the solo saxophone and piano, chamber orchestra, brass orchestra and jazz combos. Some of her compositions like Sapiera dienasgrāmata, Arnolds…ar un bez zirga have been recorded by Latvian and Estonian National Radio. Inga composed original music for the shadow play Alice in Wonderland that was premiered at The Great Guild in March 2011.

Inga is currently the group leader of the saxophone section of the Latvian National Guard Orchestra and still performs violin with the folk group Klabatas. She also performs in the folklore style group Līga, and in addition to her concert work, teaches saxophone at Riga’s 3rd Music School.

 

Baiba Kuzmina – alto saxophonist

Baiba Kuzmina has played music since the age of 4, having begun with the piano. Her path to the saxophone was gradual, and she has performed in choirs and musical ensembles along the way.

Thanks to a saxophone given to her by Arturs Reiniks, Baiba began to learn the saxophone with Emīls Zilberts at the Iecava Music School and then later with Juris Krūmmalis at the Bauska Music School, graduating from the saxophone class of Eduards Raubiško at the Jelagava Music School. Currently Baiba is a student at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Baiba has played with the Jelgava Big Band for 4 years, performing at numerous concerts, competitions and festivals. Baiba has performed at many song festivals as a singer, dancer and member of various other musical groups.

A willing competitor from her school days, Baiba has competed on the Talants Latvijai and Saxophonia shows. To further her skills in ensemble playing, Baiba has attended the Arvīds Žilinskis music camp in Sauka and the brass band camp PLUS.

In parallel to her studies, Baiba teaches saxophone at the Jelgava Music Secondary School. In her free time she writes poetry and is learning the clarinet.

 

Katrīna Kivleniece – tenor saxophonist

 

Anete Levica – baritone saxophonist

Currently Anete Levica studies at the Jazz Department of Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music Secondary School. She is also a baritone saxophone player at the Latvian National Guard Orchestra.
